Nature-inspired design, system-level thinking.

Anthozoa is a nature-inspired design system based on corals and the idea of balance. It uses the colours, shapes, textures, and organic forms of coral to create a visual style for wellness applications. The goal was to create a unique design system that brings the look and feel of a thriving coral ecosystem into digital interfaces.

Why Hydrophytes?

While exploring sources of inspiration for the design system, I reflected on themes that resonate strongly with me: one of them was nature. While researching natural elements associated with calmness and balance, I discovered moss and later hydrophytes. Underwater plants and coral forms are asymmetric yet rhythmic, imperfect yet balanced. Exploring the calming and flowing nature of marine invertebrates like sea anemones and corals, and seeing them create a vibrant ecosystem underwater, inspired me to develop “Anthozoa.”

Moodboard

Soft structures inspired by coral growth.

Underwater textures informed the design properties organic gradients, glassmorphism and calm interaction states. Four core properties emerged: Soft Gradient, Organic Forms, Calm Interaction, and Natural Balance.

Design properties grid

Translating inspiration into tokens and components.

Color palette, icon set, typography scale, and reusable components were documented as a full style guide. Every token maps directly to the natural reference it came from.

Style guide

Bridging the concept and final UI.

Low-fidelity wireframes mapped user flows before the design system was applied, ensuring the components solved real navigation problems rather than just looking beautiful.

The system in motion.

Interactive prototypes demonstrated how the Anthozoa components behave across onboarding, community, and profile flows within the wellness app context.
